The Jing Si Hall in Bedfordview is the first newly constructed hall / temple for the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation (Tzu Chi) on the African continent. Tzu Chi is a charitable organisation with a footprint in 11 African countries and over 30 years presence in South Africa. The building design was intended to mirror the temples and halls constructed in other regions of the world and there was immense attention to detail on finishes to ensure everything was to the client’s specification. One of the many specialist installations in the building was the bamboo-cladded walls and floors, with materials imported directly from China.
