COMPANY OVERVIEW

When I started the business in November of 1972, I did not imagine that 50 years later we would still be active in the building trade.

It has been a lifetime of sweat and tears but also of fulfilment – a result of our incredible staff who have been committed to the legacy that has been built. If it were not for them we would not be here today.

To my two lifelong companions, Mearl and Mathebula, who have given their all, I thank you for supporting the business for the 48 years that we have worked together. To our new blood, we say “thank you for your commitment” – may you see the company into its centennial year!

The company is well recognised for its quality of work, proactive involvement in projects and its timeous completion of contracts. These range from luxury lodges to hotels, warehouses, factories, hospitals, retail centres and commercial buildings.

Mike Buyskes, Mearl Buyskes & Mathebula Mahlangu

OUR HISTORY

1972

Establishment of Mike D. Buyskes Builders

In November of 1972, Mike Buyskes, a young man of 20, decided he was not going to work for an employer and started a business in the building trade called Mike D. Buyskes Builders. He had a single employee to assist him.

1973

Company Name Changed to Mike Buyskes Construction (Pty) Ltd

With some income now available, new staff were hired and the company name was changed to Mike Buyskes Construction (Pty) Ltd.

1974

Mathebula Mahlangu: From Labourer to Shareholder

In 1974, Mathebula Mahlangu joined the business as a labourer. He progressed through the company ranks and was made a director in 1992 and a few years later become a shareholder. He remains a loyal and committed shareholder in MBC.

1976

Mearl Buyskes

In 1976, Mearl Buyskes joined us and was made a director and shareholder in 1984. All three of the original directors are still active in the company.

1980

Moving into the Commercial Market

The company originally specialised in the residential market. When this market took a major downturn in the late 1980s, we moved into the commercial market where we remain today.

1984

Registration with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)

Mike Buyskes Construction registered the enterprise name on {INSERT DATE} and it became a company, Mike Buyskes Construction (Pty) Ltd.

2001

Lodges

In 2001, the company ventured into building luxury lodges and this has remained a very successful aspect of our business over the past 20 years. The company is now building our thirty fourth lodge.

2007

Two New Directors

In 2007, the company gained two new directors from our existing staff, namely Leon Lees and Jayson Buyskes. With these new motivators, the company has grown from strength to strength, and today it plays a leading role in the South African construction market.

2020

Moving Abroad

Mike Buyskes Construction took on the development of two lodges in Zambia: one lodge for renovation and one new lodge to be built. What an experience it was - many flights back and forth between the two countries, fifty two transport trucks from Johannesburg to Chirundu and one hundred and twelve Seatrucks (water boats) from Chirundu to the site located on the Zambezi River.

2022

Company Growth

The company currently employs one hundred and seventy people directly and approximately eight hundred to nine hundred people indirectly.

2024

Gain of an Angel and Two New Directors

Mike Buyskes Construction suffered a major loss with the passing of Mike Buyskes on 20 February 2024. The company gained two new directors from our existing staff: Corné Lees and Gerhard van Vuuren. In addition, Mathebula Mahlangu, also a director and shareholder in the company, received his 50-year service certificate.
